Hangwi joined CommerzVentures in April 2022. She has always thoroughly revelled in engaging with brilliant minds that are finding creative and scalable solutions to local problems.
She began her investment career at Deutsche Bank, then went on to early stage venture capital and impact investing in South Africa. Following that, she joined the CDC Group (now BII) in London, with an investment and development focus across Africa. Most recently, Hangwi was Vice President at Barclays Africa (now Absa Africa) driving the bank’s digital transformation and innovation strategy, as well as leading various new business ventures and external partnerships in the FinTech ecosystem.
Outside of this invigorating world, she can also be found climbing up mountains for the views, stringing vague poetry together in her writing, and chasing sunsets to the edge of an ocean.
Hangwi holds a BBusSci degree in Finance, Economics and Statistics from the University of Cape Town, and an MBA from the University of Oxford where she was a Saïd Scholar.
