Christian Deger / Venture Partner
Christian is an entrepreneur with deep experience and knowledge in the Payments and FinTech spaces. In addition to his role at CommerzVentures, he is an investor & advisor to startups and corporate clients.
After co-founding Payreto in 2011, a managed services company for payment providers, Christian founded Payworks, a payment gateway technology provider, in 2012. At Payworks he acted as the CEO until the company's acquisition by Visa Inc. in 2019. During his time at Payworks Christian sold to leading payment providers and acquirers in the US, Europe and Africa and advised their executive teams on the implementation and execution of their integrated Point of Sale and digitalisation strategies.
As part of the Payworks acquisition by Visa, Christian joined the leadership team of Cybersource and acted as the company's VP Head of Europe until the end of 2021. In this role, he oversaw the entire European business of Cybersource, serving leading retailers, airlines and other blue-chip merchants as well as payment providers and acquirers with Visa's payment processing and fraud solutions.
